This PR Girl Doesn’t Do Her Own PR!
Yes, I am guilty. Like the cobbler’s children that have no shoes, DJ Public Relations does not do PR for itself.
I bring this up now because I recently was called out for this transgression. And by someone that REALLY mattered.
Here was the conversation:
Me: If you need additional information you can look at my website. It’s www.DJPublicRelations.com
Her: I already went to your website.
Me: (Chuckling) Of course, I haven’t updated it lately!
Her: Yes, I noticed that.
Me: Oh. (Awkward Silence).
And it was at that moment that I realized I’d better add one more business to my list of clients that it is my job to promote – DJ Public Relations.
As a mother and a wife, it is my job to put others before me. But as a business owner, I need to be selfish and do what is best for my company – what I tell my clients to do everyday. Therefore, I am making a New Year’s Resolution a little bit early. I commit to keeping my website and my social media channels updated and intriguing. I commit to writing more blogs. I commit to sharing and repurposing other information that I believe my friends and colleagues will find as interesting as I do. And I commit to never find myself in the situation where I am apologizing for my website being out-of-date or my social media channels being neglected.
Are you guilty of neglecting yourself – either personally or professionally – in order to focus on others? Leave a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
And thank you Penny, for calling me to the carpet!
